The Board of Education announced this evening that Deputy Superintendent Micaela Ochoa has been appointed to serve as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the Pleasanton Unified School District. As Interim Superintendent, Ochoa will help lead the District’s educational initiatives and business affairs.
Ochoa has served in Pleasanton Unified School District since August 2015. She was promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Business Services in December 2015 after serving as Substitute Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. As Deputy Superintendent of Business Services, Ochoa oversees the Departments of Child Nutrition, Data Processing, Facilities, Fiscal Services, Graphics, Kids' Club, Maintenance/Operations, Purchasing/Warehouse, Technology Services and Transportation/Security.
“During her tenure at PUSD, Ochoa has worked to improve the District’s long term fiscal solvency and stability. In 2016, Ochoa led a district wide effort to move previously one-time funded positions to the District’s multi-year budgets through 2018-19,” said Board President Joan Laursen in a statement following the announcement. “Ochoa has also worked with the Board to improve the District’s fiscal transparency through bringing more decisions around expenditures before the public during Board meetings as well as making the District’s financials more accessible through user friendly documents.”
Ochoa’s proposed contract will be presented at the Board’s January 31 meeting. She will serve as Interim Superintendent through June 30, 2017.
Taking steps to identify a permanent Superintendent, the Board agreed to issue a call for proposals from Superintendent search firms and to form a sub-committee composed of two (2) Trustees (Arkin and Maher), three (3) District employees and five (5) community members to provide input on the Superintendent search firm selection and process. The Board will look to identify candidates who will continue to move forward the strategic plan and initiatives currently underway in the District.
