The Board of Trustees appointed Dr. David Haglund the new Superintendent of Pleasanton Unified School District by a unanimous vote during their June 13 regular meeting. Dr. Haglund will begin his tenure as Superintendent on July 1, 2017.
"I am honored to have been selected as PUSD's next superintendent," said Dr. Haglund. "Pleasanton schools are blessed with great teachers and support staff and a community of parents and students that reach for and achieve excellence in many ways. I look forward to meeting with the Pleasanton community to hear their thoughts and partner in the work that lies ahead."
Dr. Haglund served as the Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services and Chief Academic Officer for the Santa Ana Unified School District, located in Orange County, beginning in 2013. Serving the 7th largest school district in California, Dr. Haglund led academic programs that drive learning for the District’s 60 school sites.
Prior to leading educational services in Santa Ana Unified, Dr. Haglund served as Director of Educational Options and then Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Support at the Riverside Unified School District. Dr. Haglund led for the expansion of blended and personalized learning programs in two of California's largest school systems at Santa Ana and Riverside Unified School Districts.

Across his 29-year career in education, Dr. Haglund has held positions as a classroom teacher, principal and district administrator. Dr. Haglund started his educational career as a Social Science teacher in Rialto Unified School District and holds a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California.
