The Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) invites those interested in serving on its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force to apply by Monday, January 10, 2022. PUSD honors the diversity represented across our community and throughout our schools in regards to race, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic status, gender, mental health status, disability/ability, age, sexual orientation, religion, and gender expression. Our Guiding Principle states that the district believes in creating safe, caring and mutually respectful environments where all students, staff and parents are honored and valued for their diverse cultural backgrounds, identities, abilities and strengths. Therefore, we have a responsibility to commit time, energy, and resources to develop an equitable and inclusive environment for all students, parents, and staff.
PUSD recognizes that educational excellence requires a commitment to equity. We believe that educational equity means that each student receives what they need, when they need it, to develop to their full potential. PUSD Equity & Diversity Resolution (adopted January 12, 2016)
Role of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force
PUSD’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force serves as an advisory body to the Superintendent, and advocates for our community at large. The Task Force’s aim is to provide stakeholders with support, guidance, and information to advance equitable practices in our district overall. For the 2021 - 2022 Task Force, we are seeking 18-24 members. PUSD students, teachers, staff, administrators, community members, and parents are encouraged to apply. We are looking for the following to ensure balance and parity:
Central Foci for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force
- Learn about educational equity and become a district ambassador for educational equity and equally high outcomes for all students.
- Promote inclusion and equity for all members within our Pleasanton community.
- Review and analyze district data to uncover inequities and assist with informing policies, practices, protocols, or processes recommendations.
- Provide support in identifying, reviewing and implementing equitable systems for curricula, priorities, and efforts that best support students, staff, parents and community members in PUSD.
- Develop an ongoing equity action plan.
There will also be additional ways to be involved because not all who apply will be selected to serve on this Task Force. Everyone who is interested will have an opportunity to participate in this work. We have planned to elicit feedback from the wider PUSD community, and your insights will be an invaluable part of this process.
Members should be committed to serving at least a one year term and to attending at least 80% of the Task Force meetings. The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force will alternate monthly meetings in person and on zoom from 6 to 8 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, beginning on January 26, 2022.Applications are due by Monday, January 10, 2022
