Happy Classified School Employee Week!

Dear PUSD community,

As I reflect back over the past year, I am so grateful for our classified team members who have been instrumental to keeping our schools safe and open. These employees have worked tirelessly to help prepare classrooms and school facilities for students and teachers, served each and every student with nutritious meals, and supported every aspect of their learning and physical well being. To acknowledge this work, on April 28, our Board of Trustees passed a resolution recognizing the week of May 16-20 as "Classified School Employee Week".

I’d like to especially recognize PUSD’s 2022 Classified School Employee of the Year, Lydiksen Elementary’s Fernando Bongiorno. Mr. Bongiorno has served the Lancer community for seven years as their custodian, helping to ensure the campus is a clean and safe environment in which all students can learn. He is beloved by the Lydiksen community as professional, personable, and positive. Fernando knows students by name and can sometimes be seen kicking a soccer ball around with them. He is a living example of how PUSD employees have an immeasurable impact on the lives of students. He was also recognized as the Alameda County Classified Employee of the Year and will soon compete at the statewide level.

To each of our classified school employees - you truly are the heart of our schools and essential to our ability to serve the families. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, and all of us at PUSD, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for the Pleasanton community.

If you’re reading this and know of a classified employee who’s made a difference in your life, in the life of your child, or has served as an inspiration to you this year, please take a moment to reach out to them. Be sure to let them know of your appreciation.

With much gratitude,
