We are thrilled to announce that PUSD's 2018-19 Teacher of the Year is Arlene Simpelo, a 1st grade teacher at Lydiksen Elementary School.
Arlene has been teaching in PUSD for over 20 years, and teaching full time at Lydiksen Elementary since 1999. She is known for her leadership at her school site and among teachers across the District. As one of four Google Certified Innovators in the District, Arlene uses technology to provide interactive and individualized learning opportunities for her students and has worked with other staff and teachers to enhance their instruction.
Principal Jacob Berg says, “Arlene cares about the progress and growth of every one of her students, and they all receive the individualized instruction they need. She is a leader at our site in many ways.”
Arlene started the lunch-time coding club two years ago and expanded it to include additional students during an after-school program last year. She also works with other teachers to staff the Lydiksen extended day intervention program.
We know Arlene as someone who works to promote inclusive environments for students through collaboration with Special Day Classes at Lydiksen as well as parent advocacy serving as a co-facilitator of the Lydiksen School Smarts parent education program.
Arlene's name will be submitted to the Alameda County Office of Education for the county's Teacher of the Year program. Please join us in congratulating Arlene Simpelo as PUSD's Teacher of the Year!
