Student Device Initiative

One of Pleasanton USD's Strategic Plan goals is to "optimize student learning using innovative technologies."  Students and teachers use internet enabled devices to access and think critically about a wide variety of information, create content, and collaborate with each other and with other citizens of our increasingly interconnected world.  Many of our curricular and assessment resources are now available online.

Pleasanton has been incorporating "blended learning" -- or the instructional approach that mixes online and traditional classroom activities in combination with each other -- into our schools since the advent of the 21st century.

Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, the District will begin purchasing internet-enabled devices for student use from Measure I1 bond funds.  Any devices purchased using bond funding will be financed so the bonds are paid back within the 5 year expected useful life of the devices.

Take-home Devices for Students in Middle and High Schools:
Students in our middle and high schools will be assigned online classroom and homework activities.  In order to support online access for learning in these and other locations, students in grades 6-10 will be assigned a device to use at home and at school.  Additional grades will be added each year, until all students in grades 6-12 will be provided access to a take-home device in 2020-21.  Students are expected to come to school prepared to learn by charging their devices at home (spare charging stations will be made available in limited quantities at school).

This table outlines the Distribution Plan that has been defined for our take-home devices that will be issued to students at our middle and  high schools.  This plan is subject to change at any time, based on instructional and funding needs.
