The Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Trustees is embarking on a comprehensive search for a visionary and dynamic leader to serve as our next Superintendent of Schools. This is an exciting opportunity to guide our district in fulfilling its mission: "Our Students Will Make a Better World."

PUSD is a high-achieving district serving approximately 13,300 students across a diverse range of schools, including:

  • Nine Elementary Schools
  • Three Middle Schools
  • Two Comprehensive High Schools
  • One Continuation High School

We are seeking a Superintendent who can build upon our existing strengths, address future challenges, and inspire our dedicated staff, engaged students, and supportive community.

Following a thorough Request for Proposal (RFP) process, the PUSD Board of Trustees has partnered with Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), a nationally recognized executive search firm specializing in educational leadership. HYA will work closely with the Board and the community to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive search process.

HYA brings extensive experience in:

  • Developing a clear search timeline and effective advertising strategies.
  • Facilitating the screening and interviewing of highly qualified candidates.
  • Conducting thorough background checks.
  • Ensuring a diverse and robust candidate pool.

A crucial element of this search will be leveraging the valuable community input gathered in a prior phase, which has been documented in the Leadership Profile Report. This report will inform the desired qualities and priorities for our next Superintendent.

The Opportunity: Superintendent of Schools

As the chief executive of the Pleasanton Unified School District, the Superintendent will inspire, lead, guide, and direct every member of our administrative, instructional, and supportive services team. The Superintendent will be responsible for setting and achieving the highest standards of excellence, ensuring that each student receives a complete, valuable, meaningful, and personally rewarding education.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Administering, developing, and maintaining a positive educational program that meets the needs of the community and aligns with Board policies.
  • Serving as a key communicator and advisor to the Board of Trustees.
  • Overseeing the efficient and effective use of all district facilities, property, and funds with a focus on student impact.
  • Leading the continuous evaluation of the district's progress and needs.
  • Fostering strong relationships with professional and community groups.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Board policies.
  • Providing leadership in financial planning and budget development.
  • Representing the district effectively within the community and beyond.
  • And other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees.

Terms of Employment:

  • Service Days: 225 days
  • Salary Range: $290,000 to $360,000 (to be negotiated with the Board)
